When a magical worker takes on the role of an exorcist there are many things the person has to consider, most of which are covered in the chapter 1. But as the work progresses into a longterm commitment, there are things that an exorcist may have to address as the work progresses.

The most basic consideration is the ‘shelf life’ of an exorcist, which in reality is quite short, just a few years. It is one thing to come across the occasional job over the years, but once the intention to focus on that specific path comes into play, then the intensity and regularity of the work increases—the lights go on, the queue forms outside the door and your life is no longer your own. It can become increasingly isolating when you find that the many people who are put in your path are ‘jobs,’ not social contacts, which can make for a difficult social life!

The key to avoid burnout is to realise when you are coming to the end of your service time and back out quietly. Often at that time there is a call to teach or guide other exorcists, or to do work that doesn’t involve people such as structural work and land work—there is only so much each human can give and you need to know your limit. If you push beyond the limit of your capacity, then serious damage can occur at both a physical and spiritual level. The ability to say no becomes very important—there will be jobs that present that you know others can deal with and you must be willing to let other people step in and take over the work.

Entanglements

Once an exorcist has been working in the field for a while and has dealt with a variety of issues, lines of connection form which link one being to another, and the exorcist can become burdened with a variety of entanglements that link them to various victims, beings, and places.

The net result of these tangles is that when something major happens to one of these beings/victims/places, the exorcist is drawn upon as an unconscious resource which can become quite a serious burden. This is another reason not to take on every single job in the world: you will eventually end up carrying the net results of those jobs and the human spirit is not designed to undertake such a burden.

In the past, a human who took the role of an exorcist would work with a very small amount of people within a defined community and a limited pot of beings. With the advent of world travel, the dissemination of various spiritual traditions, and the beings that are incorporated in those traditions has widened considerably, and with it the field of work that an exorcist has to undertake has expanded. There are no longer small isolated communities that are all a part of one tradition—an exorcist may have to cross oceans to deal with ‘foreign’ beings that they have very little true experience of.

Our natural ‘immunity’ to certain beings and magical situations is passed down in the ancestral blood line from one generation to another. Since the industrial revolution, people are no longer deeply connected to a specific area or land mass, nor are they usually a part of a spiritual tradition that spans generations. We choose our homes and we choose our spiritual paths. That brings an amazing freedom and a broadening of spiritual knowledge, but it also brings uncharted territory and opens doorways into worlds that we have not had such wide access to before.

This situation is what brings about such a fast burnout rate in exorcists: the range of beings and worlds that are navigated today is unparalleled in modern history, and the lot of an exorcist is akin to a local family doctor suddenly having to work on call around the world in obscure areas and treat strange tropical diseases without having any inoculation protection, natural immunity, or known medications to hand. It’s a steep learning curve for the human body and spirit, which has its limitations.

The good side is that by passing on to others what you have found, the next round of exorcists do not have to reinvent the wheel: they can focus on new situations and find inventive ways to overcome novel problems. And by absorbing the experiences of those who have gone before, coupled with the study of more ancient writings, the next generation develop a strength and flexibility that works in tandem with our ever changing world.

Patterning of the soul

This section can relate either to the exorcist or to a victim who has been very badly magically assaulted. Through constant serious attack, or through intensive working with demonic influences, the spiritual pattern that the soul expresses through can be badly damaged, and if it is not attended to it can result in an early death. It can also affect the spiritual expression of the soul beyond life, which is a very serious matter.

This can be worked with but is not something to undertake lightly, nor is it something that is appropriate for a magical beginner or new initiate to attempt. For this reason alone, I have not written out the vision, but the details and writings that follow should be enough of a guideline for an experienced worker to be able to construct a working that will be effective.

The vision works at the Abyss and works on the manifestation of Divinity into life before it takes on a specific form—it is the blueprint of life that is built out of the entirety of angelic consciousness. When you get back to that level of the blueprint, it still has the potential to manifest as a rock, a tree, an animal, or a human. Once the blueprint is plugged into the tree of life pattern, then it is narrowed down to human expression and it is at this point, standing with your back to the Abyss and solar sphere/ Tiphereth of the tree of life before you that the damage will show. Without a complete blueprint at this level, the different facets that make up our human expression begin to crumble and that crumbling separates the life form from its inner pattern.

It is unusual for damage to occur at this level, but if an attack or an interaction is powerful enough or prolonged enough, damage can occur and must be detected and dealt with before the damage becomes permanent.

The ‘blueprint’, so to speak, is the full breadth of angelic patterning and appears as a large construct of platonic solids arranged in a geometric pattern. A known example of such patterning is the Metatron Cube which is 13 spheres of Divinity, linked by pathways that create platonic solids which interconnect to create a holism. This pattern sits at the edge of the Abyss and interacts with the patterning of the tree of life to create humanity.

In vision, the exorcist or ritualist reestablishes the original untainted pattern on the far side of the Abyss and then bridges it to the realm of humanity by carrying it across the Abyss and down to Malkuth. As the pattern progresses down the three of life, the various spheres of human expression are reconnected with and re-established to create a vessel that the blueprint can be contained within. It takes on human form as the structure of the tree of life integrates with the blueprint, thus becoming a whole physical expression.

Once the pattern reaches Malkuth, the structure is complete and the human expression is fully operational. The path through the desert beyond Malkuth is the life path of that human.

This work does not get rid of magical attacks, bindings, etc, but what it does do is to reestablish the physical and spiritual integrity of the human structure which in turn enables it to withstand strains or attacks. It is also an opportunity to gain a deeper insight into the nature of the human soul, of the soul’s inherent Divinity, and the deeper aspects of our role within the fate pattern of our world.

It is not something that can really be intellectualised upon. Like the Metatron cube, it must be experienced in its own environment for its deeper secrets to become apparent and be understood. For example, if you sit down to draw a Metatron cube with a ruler, you will miss a massive part of what it has to tell you.

I know, because I did just that—I sat down with a coin for the spheres and a ruler for the lines. The spheres were fine but when I reached for the ruler, it vanished. I hunted all over for the bloody thing and in the end a contact that had been following me around the house all day said, ‘just do it…the spheres are of God, but the lines are of you and must be drawn free hand from point to point: you cannot draw through points to make a long line, it must be approached a connection at a time.’

So I did just that and I was astounded at the information that came through as a result of working from point to point. I began to see how different angelic beings supported certain aspects of Divinity and how they interconnected across the pattern to support the manifestation of humanity—it just blew me away.

The wider pattern at the Abyss can be approached the same way: once the flawless pattern has been established on the far side of the Abyss and then merged with the broken pattern, the most intricate and beautiful lines appear to reestablish themselves and you begin to see how the whole pattern weaves itself in a multidimensional cloth that makes up our existence.

Once that pattern has been worked with, the practitioner begins to feel more ‘whole’ and ‘connected’ as the weave with life is reestablished.

Once the repair work has been done, the exorcist must then make specific choices regarding her ability to continue, or whether it is time to retire. It is a difficult choice to make, but more often than not, the inner contacts and beings that an exorcist has worked with for years will help the exorcist find the appropriate way forward.

In the end, we do what we can and when we can do no more, we pass on the tools with support to the next generation and hope for the best!
