Tantra was an important aspect to the work of Alchemy; it is highly regarded with respect to the essence and practices that are integrated into St. Germain's remedy. Alchemy and Tantra are conceptually and symbolically similar in that the true essence lies in the context of the attainment of the most high, Divine soul through complex methods, experimentation and spiritual practices.
Traditionally, the essence of Tantra had been preserved throughout the ages with magnificent ceremonies in order to excite the spirit of religion to contemplate the profound mysteries which were revealed. Tantra, customary known as tantric sexuality, is the primary reality of Alchemical symbolism and Alchemy. It includes a form of Yoga and a principle of physical regeneration through the ingestion of various elixirs. This concept is identical to the Materia Prima, from the Philosopher's Stone to symbolic forms or metal transmutation which draws gold in a tangible form. The true doctrine of tantric sexuality has more to do with preserving a sexual energy, which is equivalent to the Taoistic doctrine of gathering virtue: gathering Qi, healing and maintaining a long life for something of great worth. The true aim is not to incite the physical senses, but rather to awaken the higher spiritual ideals that lie in the Kundalini energy known as the Serpent, the upward movement of vital force. In fact, the true Orientalists, who had a profound knowledge of the Tantra, considered it in many respects even more "ethical" in their sexual attitudes than many of those who were hypocritical.
St. Germain, in his work among the secret societies, was strictly striving only to accomplish the most high, spiritual realization, the union with God. Tantrism is not merely a sexual discipline by any means; there is a great deal of emphasis on meditation and utilizing complex and highly symbolic visual images called Yantra to focus the imagination.
Kundalini had risen to the lotus charka, the opening of the 1,000-pet- alled lotus, where Shiva, the masculine principle of energy dwells. The culmination is complete absorption in the divine bliss. The blending of masculine and feminine elements within the psyche is one of the most frequent and fundamental themes of esoteric practice in all cultures.
In the Western occult tradition, the chemical marriage or mystical union of masculine and feminine is an explicit theme in Alchemy, and an implicit element in many other types of spiritual practices. Thus, the nucleus of Alchemy and Tantra is essentially identical since they are strictly close to the ordinary pasu, or the bestial man. They can only reveal the true viva, the hero or spiritually evolved man, who can fathom their deepest levels of spiritual significance. In their highest understanding, the meaning of these practices is not literal or physical, but rather "of a purely mental and spiritual character."
