Chapter 5: Cafe

Luca and Mhyv sit at the table near the corner of a cafe. Although nobody bats an eye at Luca, he keeps covering his shoulder and leaning closer to the wall to prevent anyone from seeing his injuries, much to Mhyv's bored amusement.

Eventually, Randell walks away from the counter and moves to their table with a small red buzzer. Sitting next to Mhyv and putting the buzzer closer to the small box of napkins.

“ Sorry, they ran out of chicken.“

“ It's okay, I'm fine with drinking coffee “

“ And my burgers? “

“ Sigh…

Yes, I already ordered your burgers. “

“ Still, it's not fair.

I helped you carry this wolf all the way in this cafe and you still give me three burgers? Shouldn't you buy me an extra burger for a job well done? “

“ Nope! That ship is sealed, you only have three burgers. Nothing more nothing less. “

“ Tsk… “

Mhyv mumbled with a much lowered tone while turning his attention to the window.

Since their food will arrive as soon as the buzzer makes a sound, Luca and Randell decide to preoccupy themselves.

With Luca whipping out his phone from his pocket and Randell checking his wallet to see that he only has 70 dollars left.

“ Sigh… “

‘ Well at least this amount should still get me to a cheap hotel, though dinner's going to be tight. ‘

Randell then puts his wallet away and turns to Luca, noticing him sighing in relief after looking at his phone for a couple of minutes.

“ So what's the situation now? “

“ Well there's good news and bad news.

The good news is that reinforcement finally came, so most of the students are free to go back to the academy. “

“ Phew! Thank the god's…

And the bad news? “

“ 3rd years are requested to go back to the alleyway. “

“ Why do you sound so down? “

“ Because this means I have to go back within 5 minutes or my knight professor will punish me.“

“ Oh! You're in your third year!

I never really notice, but why exactly are 3rd years asked to go back? Wouldn't they at least give them a long break after fighting monster's? “

“ No clue.

My friend doesn't know either since my professor didn't specify why.“

“ Is it typical for professors in Nightfall Academy to do that? “

“ Only professor Oz.

He never exactly says his reasons whenever he makes a request, we just have to follow him or we’ll be punished…

For now I decided to just take your advice and wait this out for an hour. “

“ Aren't you afraid of what punishment your professor might throw at you? “

“ Eh, I can manage.

You're lucky that you don't have to meet him, you're probably not going to be sorted at my Suite anyways.“

‘ Suite?

Oh right, suite…

Forgot that Nightfall Academy has a suite system ‘

Randell thought as he's been researching Nightfall Academy for a while now. Taking his sources from forums regarding Nightfall Academy or blog posts about Beastkin who's been in the academy.

Although they are good sources, Randell wanted to know one specific thing about the Suite of Sorcerers, specifically from the original source right in front of him.

“ Say… since you're a 3rd year student, what are the trainee sorcerers like in the Suite of Sorcerers?

I know you're obviously from the Suite of Knights considering that you're physically stronger than me, but did you at least meet a few of them, right? “

Luca thought for a moment while Randell paid close attention for Luca to respond.

Luca eventually answered, putting his phone away and said in an almost thoughtful tone.

“ And why do you want to know? “

“ Just curious if the majority of the trainee sorcerers from that suite are problematic, that's all “

“ Curious huh?

Well I did meet a few trainee sorcerers in that suite and they seem to be nice… a few of them at least…

But that's about it.

Sorry I can't exactly tell you the full details, but if you like I could text my friend who's in that suite, he'll tell you what you need to know. “

“ R-really? “

“ Yeah, after he deals with a few tasks from the academy he'll eventually come to this place. “

“ Nice! Thanks Luca! “

“ Heh, anytime “

“ Oh and how about the Entrance Test?

Since the labyrinth barrier’s been broken, has Nightfall Academy made any updates? “

“ Not much, the Entrance Test will still take place within three days since my friend said that the labyrinth barrier will be repaired within a few hours.

But the alleyway near Applebreacket will be prohibited until the passage labyrinth disappears. “

“ And how long will that take? “

“ Don't know, the licensed sorcerers haven't confirmed the state of the passage labyrinth yet. “

‘ Dang… this could mean that the alleyway would be prohibited for about a few days or weeks. ‘

Randell was a little disappointed by that news since he’ll have to take St Joule's to walk towards the academy. But nonetheless he just shrugs it off, as taking the longer route is way better than taking a short cut that's filled with monsters.

They continue to wait for a few minutes until the buzzer activates, leading Randell to walk down the first floor to deliver their food.

Luca only has a latte, Mhyv again three burgers and some chocolate milkshake, while Randell has fries, garlic bread, and some tap water.

However, Luca doesn't seem to notice that the three burgers or chocolate milkshake that Randell ordered seemingly disappeared from his sight. Almost as if he quickly forgot about them as soon as Mhyv touched them.

Randell notices Luca never seeing Mhyv holding all three of his burgers and milkshake with four of his arms, making him begrudgingly sigh and just look at Luca in disappointment.

‘ Of course he didn't notice.

This always happens whenever Mhyv eats with my friends. ‘

Seeing that Luca still cannot notice Mhyv's presence, he just eats his meal and worries about how he and Mhyv will afford dinner tonight.

…

Luca checks his phone to see that an hour has passed.

“ Well, I managed to recover half my mana.

Thanks again for treating me, I'll make sure to repay you someday Randell. “

“ You don't have to do that really.

Just worry about what your professor will do to you for being late. “

“ Hehe, yeah I will.

Pray he didn't break my limbs~ “

Luca playfully said before taking a deep breath and was about to cast the spell.

Until the door chimed, causing Luca to stop and stare at the albino burmese python beastkin entering the cafe. The beastkin has white scales and pinkish hue patterns, wearing a black sleeveless shirt, white fur coat over his shoulders, black leather pants, and black shoes.
