Chapter 4 - Portrait Drawing

 

By definition, portrait drawing is the art of illustrating a person when the prominent feature is the face, most notably the expression. This is the reason the most portraits don’t look candid. Subjects are more often than not composed.

 

Step 1

In your canvas, create an oval roughly in the center, make sure it is not too big that other elements of your drawing will not fit your paper nor is it too small that there will be too much blank space when you’re done.
